Seas rise due to 3 factors. Firstly, extra volumes of freshwater are being added into the oceans by the melting glaciers. Secondly, when there is more greenhouse effect, more heat is trapped in our atmosphere, thus expanding the water in the seas. And lastly, the white ice reflects radiant energy back into space, but if they melt, it would go into the sea, which is dark, and would absorb the radiant energy instead of reflecting it, warming the seas even more. There is another thing happening in the warming seas. As the seas warm, the frozen permafrost (frozen soil)melts and it would expose the dead plants and animal remains, and would decompose, and release methane, the most destructive greenhouse gas, and carbon-dioxide causing more greenhouse effect.
The effects of sea level rise are horrifying. The rising seas could easily flood low lying places. And by the way, two thirds of the world's population lives within 100 kilometers from the coast, and if the seas continue to rise, it would put 634 million people's lives at risk, according to "http://www.npr.org/"
the consequences might be deadly, but they can be avoided. Scientists all over the world are trying their best to search for alternative energy sources so as to reduce carbon emissions, eco-engineers are also trying to build more sustainable buildings, and we, could also do our part and be GREEN.
Wow waiting for your next post eagerly!
ReplyDeleteI bet you don't know what i am writing on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWow, i did not know that sea levels rising would have so many consequences!
ReplyDeleteWOW! This is cool . I never knew you know so much in scientific studies. Perhaps you are planning to do some research on the HT earthquake to post right? A cool blog , keeo it up.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is www.spotmethere.blogspot.com . Please comment . Thanks
I am yu xiang here, cool stuff you wrote- never knew about these things around us that are happening my blog is (iamtanyuxiang.blogspot.com)
ReplyDeleteWow! Tiet Gan,that was a very scientific post.It gives me lots of information and is easy to read unlike lengthy passages.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think that this is very scientific and contains alot of information. It just gives a very brief overview of the topic, the real knowledge and information are in the books and sources like Wikipedia, which are lengthy, so, if you don't like long passages of words, i would suggest documentaries would be your type.
ReplyDeleteTiet Gan, this is a very informative article. I like the way you write about it. I did not even consider that the second and third reasons come into play for the melting of glaciers. It summarises tons of information for us busy students. Once again, the same flaw stands. THE FONT !!!!!!! Please change it so that it can be LESS irritating to read. I had a nasty first impression when I first entered your blog...
