Deception

What is a deception? Well, it means that someone is hiding a face of himself or herself, and make you live in another world of your own, and not noticing the hidden face. I am going to share 3 good examples of deception with 3 interesting stories, Lamb To The Slaughter, by Roald Dahl, The Male Child and Love, bot from a book called "Little Ironies - Stories of Singapore" by Catherine Lim.

The story Lamb To The Slaughter is about a seemingly perfect wife, Mary Maloney, murdering her husband. At first, Roald Dahl wrote that she was a neat, systematic and pretty lady with a baby. She is easily pleased by the tiny pleasures of life, like her husband, a police officer, returning home from work. One day, her husband came back with a very weird body language, signaling to Mary that something bad was going to happen, but she lived in her own world and thoughts, and was oblivious to the tell tale signs. Then, Mr Maloney told Mary something, not specified in the story, and she got a huge shock. She was so shocked by the news that she took a lamb leg, hit Mr Maloney in the head, and murdered him. Then , she began covering up her sin, not for herself, but for her unborn child. She went to the grocer, and faked that she was buying Mr Maloney something to eat, and the main purpose was to get an alibi to proof that she was not at the crime scene when he died. Then, she dailed for the police, and acted flawlessly in front of them as though nothing has happened. Then, she treated the fellow policemen, Mr Maloney's colleagues, the murder weapon, the lamb leg, a clever way to dispose the murder weapon.

For the Male Child, Chuah Poon was a caring father and wife, having 6 daughters, and praying for a son. He did not blame his wife though, but blamed himself for the sins that he commited. But then,he met a prostitude at a brothel, and loved that prostitude so much that he wants to marry her. At that time, his wife was pregnant. So, to find a reason to leave her and marry the prostitude, he begged for that child to be a girl, and break off relations with his wife once and for all.

Lastly, Love. It is about this man, Frankie, with a girlfriend, pearl, that was perfect to him. Pearl wanted to be spoonfed by her husband and not work, and live in bliss and happiness. Then, Pearl left Frankie as she thought that he was not i deal for him as he might not be in his present physical state and that his parent would affect their world. She left for another man, Hong, which was rather full of problems.

These stories all tell us that love can be very nice but very cruel at times.
