Literature and Life

THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
The Civil Rights Movement was a movement that encourages the equality of treatment towards African Americans. The movements began in 1896, and president John F. Kennedy supported these movements. The Brown v. Board of Education made the African Americans equal to the whites in terms of accessibility to facilities. The Montgomery Bus Boycott started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person, and was arrested and convicted for that. When the African Americans knew that, they were furious and boycotted the buses. Desegregating Little Rock was an event when 9 African American students tried to enter a school and were harassed by the whites, and they were unable to attend school. This led to the eventual desegregation of blacks and whites attending schools. This book tells us about the unfair judgment given to the Blacks on court, just like the unfair things that happened in those 3 incidents.

MONTGOMERY BUS BOYCOTT AND SCOTTSBORO TRAILS
The Montgomery Bus Boycott started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person, and was arrested and convicted for that. When the African Americans knew that, they were furious and boycotted the buses. The Scottsboro trails was about the accusation of 9 African Americans raping 2 white woman. The Scottsboro trails are almost the same as the trails in the story, when people stereotype that the blacks are bad and must have did the sin, but in fact they were the victims.

TRIALS OF A TRUE SOUTHERN BELLE AND SOUTHERN GENTLEMEN
Being a Southern Gentlemen included dressing and speaking properly for the event. Being a proper Southern Belle included dressing up in beautiful clothing and calling their parents Daddy and Mama. In the story, Aunt Alexandra could be classified as a lady as she was dressing up and also teaching all the traits of being one to Scout, so obviously she would fall in that category.
