Literature and Life

The Real Durwan: Calcutta, 1950s, after independence
The Adventure of the Speckled Band:Baker street, Victorian England, 19th century
Pride and Prejudice: A village in England, 19th century

The Real Durwan: The setting gave its reader a clue that Boori Ma was a lonely person that leaves a simple and solitary life after separating with her family. The
grief that she had made her frail and weak. The setting also hints that the storey was going to be more of a sad mood, talking about Boori Ma's lonely life.

The Adventure of the Speckled Band: The setting of this story gave us a clue that
something bad was going to happen, as the late riser, Sherlock Holmes wakes up
early and went to the author's house.

Pride and Prejudice: The setting of the story tells us that the story would be
about how the author's daughter gets married. The setting tells us of the
contrasting attitudes of the author and his wife towards the marriage of their
daughter.

  1. Good analysis Tiet Gan, I am impressed you seemed to have used the setting to predict the story. But please identify the exact setting like what country it is in? Which city? Which Town etc. When, refers to the historical time period, events of which obviously influence the story.

  2. Hi Tiet Gan I can very clearly understand the point you are trying to get across but perhaps you can work out the formatting problem because it is
quite jarring to read. Also labelling all your posts by the same name made navigation slightly difficult. Aside from those, your blog is generally well maintained and easy to navigate.

  3. Your analysis are very good and I like them but you seem to be missing out on the time period. Your setting is too exact as I think what Mrs. Anu wants is the city/town it took place at. I like the design on how the words are presented across to the viewers. Overall, good job!

  4. I think your post is quite good. It is good that I can see you predicting the whole story based on the setting. However, I thought Mrs Anu mentioned that the setting of a story is the city or town, what specific year or era and the characters' mannerism? Anyway, overall, Great job.
